Second International Convention dedicated to Vasily Grossman

“Vasily Grossman: Between Ideologies and Eternal Questions”

From February 19th to the 21st, 2009, in Turin at the Villa Gualino, the Second International Convention dedicated to Grossman unfolded under the title “Vasily Grossman: Between Ideologies and Eternal Questions.” The convention, which has the intention of gathering scholars from all over the world to discuss the works and the thoughts of Grossman, has represented the latest step in the scientific and cultural itinerary begun with the first convention in Turin in 2005. Speakers at the convention included, among others: Vittorio Strada (University of Venice), David Markovic Feldman (Russian State University of the Humanities, Moscow), Fausto Malcovati (University of Milan), Cecilia Nizza (University of Jerusalem) Michel Aucouturier (University of Paris).

Significantly, the convention was held just between the release of the new translation of Life and Fate, published by Adelphi, and the Italian publication of John and Carol Garrard’s powerful work The Bones of Berdichev: The Life and Fate of Vasily Grossman, by Marietti Publishers.

The publication of the conference proceedings is expected for March 2010, thanks to Rubbettino Publishers.
